Hi everyone
My fiancé and I have been engaged for a few years now and we’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and get married this year, we’ve decided to get married abroad (Caribbean most likely) as its cheaper and the weathers better, however I’ve been researching on the net and the legalities seem quite difficult, does anyone have any info or tips on which country’s best and simplest? I don’t fancy blood tests and translating/obtaining loads of docs etc…
Cheers
Shell

It all depends on where you live.

I am going to assume that you are British, with your use of the word "fancy" and its general context. My advice, check with a barrister.

If you are planning on getting married in the carribean and are travelling from the UK, the hotel that you choose to stay at and have the ceremony at will advise you as to what you need to do.

There a few companys like sandals (www.sandals.com) that do wedding packages and they include the paperwork. I've just had a quick look on their website and they all appear to offer it, but you need to be there at least 48 hours before you plan to get married to get the paperwork done.

Hope that helps! Best bet - call a travel agent, or a solicitor (far cheaper than a barrister)

Lot of couples get married in India, as per current trend, from what one can understand from newspaper reports: the formalities might be easier in India! All the best!
