The breeder here in the U.S. where we recently purchased our puppy works closely with a breeder in Germany. I don't know if they are located near you, but it would might be worth a try. Our puppy's sire is in Germany now, dam is here in the states, but they are both on the website. Sire is Sando, Dam is Gynger. We got to meet Gynger. Incredible dog, awesome temperament.

Hope this helps!

Watch the local papers, they list litters in there. Also check out the community boards where they post stuff for sale, like large hardware stores (Hela's). There are pets listed there sometimes. Go to the pet supply stores where they sell food and many times there is a board there. Ask the clerk at the pet food store if they know of breeders or litters in the area. I know language can be a bit of a barrier if you don't speak German, but most Germans speak some English and with a translation book you should be able to ask for what you are wanting.

PS. Just read your question again and I assumed you were currently living in Germany. If you are just in the states looking for a good German Shep contact the local American Kennel Club and ask about breeders in your area. You can also ask at local vet clinics about breeders they know, they will know if someone in the area has a litter. The dog orrigionally came from Germany, but it is bred world wide now.

They have pet stores in Germany, but the pet stores are not allowed to sell puppies any more.
But you can get them from breeders, you will find them all over Germany, since the german shepard is one of the most favorite breeds in Germany.
You should have a look at the hip. A lot of breeders started breeding german shepards with extremely low hips, resulting in hip problems and pain for the mature dogs. Make sure that everything is fine.
To find a breeder, contact a local "Hundesport Club" or look here

German Shepherds are bred in most countries so you just need to contact the German Shepherd club in your country and they should give you a list of reputable breeders.
