From a philosophical and hilarious point of view, it could be a fist. The bowing could be a display of power... or a gut punch. On it's side is technically how it rests when you're walking or standing. The continuing the stride and greatest traveller lines could refer to violence being such a big thing in the world.
And you throw your fists. They don't walk.

I'm going to guess the Bishop. When you think Chess, it makes sense providing the game hasn' been set up yet and he does travel the furthest on the board except the queen. Most bow to the Bishop. That's my guess, but I'm still going to search on google till I'm sure.
