Can you run TOM TOM software on a MIO 268 sat nav unit?

Your answer would be No
This kind of units uses built in software for the GPS application, the card is simply for the maps.
Unless you want to go VERY deep and flash the unit with a TomTom flash to make it use TomTom navigation software instead, you would need a lot of internal information from TomTom and MIO to find out if it is possible as the ROM inside it may not be compatible at all. Not to mention, doing that is probably not even legal to start with. :-(
