There is one difference. Muslim women are seen as oppressed whereas Nuns are seen as obeying God. Funny isn't it. Muslim women are obeying ALLAH as well yet we are seen as being oppressed and trodden down souls. Other than that there is no difference.

The difference is the nun has a choice to leave the order hence, leaving the habit. Depending on what country the Muslim woman is in, if she leaves Islam hence leaving the hijab she could receive the death sentence, if not the death sentence she'd be ostracized by her family.
And yes there are orders of Nuns who do not wear a habit. Since I'm not Catholic I don't know the specifics they could be "Third Orders" of associated lay members who have taken promises to an order or taken private vows such as vows of poverty or purity, but who do not live in formal community with them.
I believe there is a huge difference between the two.

A nun is a woman who has dedicated her life to God and who wears her habit as a sign of her dedication. She has made the choice willingly.
A Muslim woman wears her special clothing as a sign of her allegiance to her religion - but it is not always the case that it is freely chosen. Both her religious adherence and her choice of clothing are often dictated by men in her life - her father, her husband. The clothingi here can be as much a sign of her subservience as it can be her faith.

No difference worth noting. In my country, the Nurses also look like wearing a Hijab. The Habit of the Priests also looks like the 'Aba' of Muslim priests in some countries. The Christian Monks do never wear a necktie. And the Jewish priests keep beards as the Muslim priests do. Thanks for not adding a punchline.

Just fishing, here to. So why do western cultures have no respect for the human body? Why do some women dress like they do and then are insulted if someone called them down for it? Same with some men. Oh yeah, I forgot, because we are free. As a Christian man I can tell you that seeing women in hijab's takes nothing away from who they are plus they don't have to "do their hair." Don't know though what difference there is, both are following their religion as they see it to be. Does everything in our world require change to "normal?"
Wearing a hijab doesn't take anything away from their beauty either, I don't need to see dyed hair or diamond earrings to observe that a woman is beautiful.

No one has to be a nun.
In fact, there are very few nuns, and even fewer that are not secular, and wear a habit. These are very few, and you only see tham in old movies. I have not seen any habited nuns in years.

Dear Bob,
I guess you and the rest of the people here need an answer from a Muslim woman who wears hijab. I wear my scarf because of a variety of things:
1. In love and obedience to my Lord.
2. Modesty
3. my identity (no one would even know I was Muslim since I'm a white American girl and so I proudly wear my scarf)
I am NOT forced to wear a scarf and dress modestly (meaning hijab). I wear it because I want to. I like it. Repeat, yes I actually like it! :) My hijab is between Allah and myself - not between my husband and my myself. Afterall, it is I who will stand alone before Allah on the Final Day.
Now, a nun wears her habit to show her committment to her faith. She has married the church so to speak. And actually she did away with the habit years ago due to a variety of excuses from the Pope. However, there are some who still choose and love to wear it. I love seeing those women who still choose to wear it.
Hope this helps. :)

A nun has married her god and has no man. A Muslim woman is only dressing as her religion dictates her to dress and has or can have a man. One shows commitment to her religion the other shows obedience.

Both respect their God.
However, the nun is adored
The Muslimah is abhored
One seems to choose, the other is said to have no choice.
The only thing true is it is a matter of personal choice and modesty that more women should emulate.

The only difference I see is that not all women are forced to be nuns. All women in certain countries are forced to wear hijabs.
