I agree with the rest of the resposnses .... as soon as they start climbing/trying to climb out of the crib because you dont want to risk them falling out and hurting themselves.
Most children go to a toddler bed or a twin bed with guard rails (they just snap/slide under the mattress of a twin/toddler bed)around 1yr old. Also if you still have them in a crib the bumber pad should be left on the rails to prevent them from getting their arm/leg stuck in the rails which could hurt them just as bad as falling out of the bed.
Hope this helps.

Depends on the child- my oldest son moved into a toddler bed at about 13 months old, simply because I was pregnant and wanted to move him early enough that he did not associate the move with the new baby.
My second son moved at about 8 months, after he had ben climbing out of the crib for over 2 months.
My daughter, at 10 months, has not yet moved out of hers. It will probably be a while, since I don't want it to coincide with the move out of our room which will happen this summer.
HOWEVER, my siblings (and I'm second oldest of seven) all stayed in cribs until three or older. They climbed out- my mom put the crib against the wall and her bed against the crib so they couldn't get hurt climbing.
When he starts trying to climb, you need to be ready to make changes before he actually does climb all the way out.

My son is 16 months old and still doesn't try to get out of the crib. I'll be leaving him in the crib until he's trying to climb out.

Put him in the toddler bed whenever he starts to climb out of the bed. My daughter is a little over two, though, and she still hasn't climbed out. I also know that she wouldn't lay still and go to sleep in a regular bed so I'm keeping her in her crib for a while. I don't think you have anything to worry about for quite a while. It will be severa; months before he is strong enough to get anywhere close to climbing out of his crib.

As soon as he begins climbing out, or you think he might be able to. Lower the crib mattress to its lowest level until then. My daughter is 22-months. She climbed out once, when she was about your son's age. We lowered the mattress down to the toddler bed level, without converting the rest of the crib. So we don't have to worry about her climbing out and she doesn't have to adjust to a new bed quite yet.

We put our daughter in her toddler bed when she was 1. We feared, as you do, that she would hurt herself trying to get out of her crib. It was the best choice we could have made. She did however, instead of go back to sleep when she woke in the middle of the night, come to my room and want to get in my bed.
Enjoy your child!

yes turn your crib to toddler bed at age 10mths-1years, because they can climb it and hurt themself. it depends if the child is climbing in the crib. i put my child into toddler bed at age 1.anyways the toddler bed have racks in the side buy those are better so they can't roll off the bed. if your crib turns into toddler beds buy the racks and put them yourself. they sell that any store ex, walmart target, baby depo, toyrus.
