I bought a 2 month old english cocker spaniel Saturday, we registered at the vet and I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for training and general health of these playful dogs.
I've noticed he likes to play all the time, he sleeps 17 hours a day and whines during the night.
Thanks.

These dogs are huntting dogs and play all the time. I have one and she is constantly wantting outside they love it and they also love to be busy. If you are not a busy person start to learn to be one. Do not hit or spank these dogs to discpline instead it is much better to prasie them for the good things they do. They are fast learners and very loving but they can have a nasty temperment and can be quite aggresive, it is a good idea to get your puppy to obedience school, or if you are going to use her to hunt start the training now, Go to a reputable trainer to get the best out of your dog. My cocker is now 11/2 years old and she does alot of things, she watches my every move and she has also brought me things she has seen me doing, Oh One thing they are the over eaters of the dog world don't give people food, they will eat until there stomache blows up if you let them. Talk to a good vet about your dog, read, read , read everything you can. Dogs also have there own personalities, not every dog is them same so you'll have some own calls of your own just remember if yhou give the dog alot of love it will love you back.. I can tell you they will chew on everything so if you want to keep your shoes put them up and get them lots of cdhew toys. Good luck.

He's very young yet, aroung the minimum age to be rehomed. Get him used to grooming and nail clipping as much as you can by playing with his ears and paws pretending to be looking at them. Using the bell-training method for housebreaking is great. Tie a large jingle bell to a string at the front or back door at puppy level. Each time you take him out, set him down by the door and point at the string to try to get him to sniff it. Once he pushes it enough to make a ringing noise, praise him and take him out. Before too long he should get the connection and learn to ring when he has to go out.
