The U.S. is the self-imposed police force of the world. As such, it is a country that believes itself 'above the laws' they themselves set. Thus, they can conduct all the tests they want, but no one else is allowed.
And the idea that the U.S. is peace-keeping is bull. The U.S. is a country always prepared for war. Even in peacetime, the United States prepares for war and sometimes even looks for places they "need" to get involved in (such as Iraq).
And yes, I'm an American. An Army wife, at that. I support the troops; I support the soldiers...bring them home!

A sovereign nation that has an interest in ensuring their security and the security of nations that may fall victim to unstable and belligerent nations. True the US has conducted just over 1,000 tests. You failed to mention that the old USSR conducted nearly the same number of tests and the largest nuclear test in history...a 57 megaton weapon in 1961 causing massive radioactive fallout....and then there were the nuclear tests by the French, the Chinese, the British, India and Pakistan.
What's your idea? Give every country that wants them nuclear weapons on the absurd believe that if everyone has them one one will use them? When a nation or nations make public declarations that that would use such weapons to eliminate another country...wipe it from the face of the earth....you actually want those countries to have nuclear capability?

When were those tests by the US done, did we realize the after-effects of nuclear testing, what have we learned since then, do we feel guilty about dropping two in Japan, what is the intelligence of the nation/s trying to become nuclear savvy, why are these countries trying to develop nuclear weapons... ask yourself those questions first then consider this.... having a big bomb is 60 year old technology. The planet doesn't run on "force" anymore but on it's economy. Money is power, not nuclear weapons... we were the first to find all this out AFTER we dropped a pair of em on Japan. We do have the experience afterall!
SO... this would indicate that these countries want to prove how powerful they are by having nuclear weapons rather than money. Money IS power these days.
Sanctions are just protests. We can choose who and how much business we want to have dealings with. It's also a way for us to show them we don't approve of their actions. Would you want a nuclear bomb to end up in the hands of terrorists?

Think of it like this. It's the Stone Age. You've got a big rock you can smash people's heads with. A few of your friends also got big rocks, and a few of your enemies, but they've all promised to never use them.
Now some other person you've been throwing smaller rocks at for a while is getting a big rock of his own. Unlike most people who already have a big rock, he might use it. So you'd try to stop him getting one.
It doesn't matter whether your big rock was obtained immorally, or if you hurt some people whilst playing around with your big rock. That's in the past. What is important is that the other person doesn't get a rock, or many haeads will be smashed open.

Ask yourself this. If Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan had developed the Atomic Bomb first, what would the world be like today?
