I think its a great idea as it will make a huge impact on the drug flow into America.
My boyfriend is a k9 officer and the dog is about the best weapon we have to prevent illegal drugs crossing into our home. It may take a little more time to check every car coming across the border from Mexico, but wouldn't that time be worth it to keep more drugs out of the USA.
Drug dogs are some of the most highly trained animals in the country and their abilities seldom fail.
I think this is probably the best idea for the influx of illegal drugs.

They have been very effective in every other aspect of law enforcement and would be in Border patrol enforcement. It's pretty tough to argue with or BS a German Shepard or Doberman. I think it is an enforcement tool long over due.
Besides...I'm pretty sure a police dog in multi-lingual!

It depends on what the dogs are used for. Drug sniffing I am all for. Crowd control is another matter. If the dogs are there just to scare the people coming into the country then no I am against it. However, if used to protect the agents, find people, find bodies, track people in the desert, and other things that dogs can do better then humans, then all for it.

Dogs have proven to be a great help to airport security agents and the police. I think they would be a great help to the Border Patrol agents. They will probably help catch more drug smugglers, too.

I think its a great Idea.There are dogs born to work and are not happy if they don't have something to do.It also increases peoples respect of the animal when they see that they have a place in our society and are not just eating,costly machines that's only purpose in life is to dig holes in your yard or chase the neighbours cat..

They should hire basset hounds. They like to sleep as much as the human border patrolmen....
They need sleeping buddies too, (it gets lonely in the truck!)
