If you feel that you need to see a mental health provider, there really is nothing required. This is unless you are speaking of something for insurance purposes. In that case, it will depend upon your plan.
If you think that you may need to see a mental health professional, talk with your general physician, and they will also refer you.

You don't have to have any specific signs or requirements in order to go see a specialist.
My honest belief is that seeing a psychologist should really be part of our culture like going to the dentist.
No matter how secure and strong we are and how good a place in our lives we seem to be, we all need to talk things out with others and we tend to choose our friends or partners to do this.
Unfortunately they are not proffessionals and may unknowingly be offering very bad advice which could ruin your life.
If you even thinking about seeing someone, you really should. Once you have tried it, then make up your own mind as there will always be people that are anti this idea.
It's the same as accupuncture. Some swear by it, others say it's a farce. Only you can tell yourself by giving it a go.

As far as I know there are no predispositions in meeting with any of these specialists.
The only thing required is your open mind and heart, and the famous thing money.
Do not go unless you really feel you need treatment, as if you only need to talk to someone, on one is better than a friend, as they know you better then anyone else...

Psychology is a scam.
They encourage you to talk, knowing that you will feel better just for having someone listening attentively to wot you say, then they make useless suggestions that don't work. For this they charge you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Now there's a reason to see a psychiatrist.
Psychiatry is basically the same except that they're medical doctors, so they don't listen to you and they can give you drugs. The drugs don't work though and if you tell them that they'll accuse you of not taking them properly.
IT'S ALL JUST A BIG SCAM

Gday
Probably not the forum to discuss an issue like this on - If you are a resident in the uk please approach your G.P for an appropriate referral to the services - as you will require a holistic tailored approach to whatever your personal circumstances/history may be .
Be well
