If military is really the only thing you want, and you HAVE had asthma since age 12, do you really have any option other than to lie? Sure, you could be thrown out if you have an attack, or even die, but at least you have a chance, you're GUARANTEED not to get in if you tell them you had it in the first place.

I guess I should add that I also went to a military school, where, I could use an inhaler each morning before any exercise, and never again throughout the day, and I could run 8 miles, and any other distance throughout the day, even more than a lot of my peers!

I do not want to do any kind of combat job, I just need to make it through basic training in the Army, obviously my lungs can't handle the marines, or Army infantry.

options are simple,.. lie and go in,... tell the truth and dont go

I lied about a serious physical injury i had to get in.... tehy never found out,.. and i was able to do 7 years and 2 deployments before i got out

the question is, what job do you want to do,. because if its anything combat arms,.. your just hurting yourself as well as the people around you,...

but if you want to do office work, or some kind of support MOS, then perhasp you can do it.

Good luck either way.

Unlike lying about your age or your education, lying about your medical conditions, especially a serious illness like asthma, will endanger not only yourself but also your fellow service members and the military mission.

Therefore, you will not only be thrown out but you may also be persecuted by law and stay in prison for several years. You may additionally be ordered by the court to pay back to the government the money they have spent on you for food, housing and training as well as returning the pay you've collected.

Asthma is not something you can easily hide from a thorough medical exam by the military prior by your enlistment but also you're most likely to be found out after you've enlisted. So, why put yourself to all that trouble? Find another career.

You might have to decide to do something else with your life. The military is very strenuous; I have asthma, and I know I could never keep up, physically. Sure, you might have an asthma attack, and get discharged, but you might have an asthma attack and DIE because you don't have your inhaler handy. Asthma is nothing to mess with! You might even be dishonorably discharged if they find out you lied on your application, and that will affect your future employment options.

There are other career options if you like the military. You could become a police officer, paramedic, firefighter, etc.

However, the military recently changed their policy that states if you had childhood asthma, but it went away as you grew up, and you can prove that you currently don't have asthma, then you are eligible for enlistment. Check with your local recruiter to be sure, though.

You forgot to mention that lying on you enlistment medical history not only will get you kicked out but you could be charged with fraudulent enlistment, making a false statement and conduct unbecoming. You would be facing possible prison time and a dis-honorable discharge. Try getting a decent job with that baggage. Of course you could always lie about that on your job application too; right?

And regarding you comment that you don't want infantry or a combat assignment....OK regarding the infantry; but what to you think the odds are that you would be sent to a combat zone during this period of time? Maybe 99 to 1 against?

I applaud you desire to serve but I don't think you have thought out the downside nearly enough.
