I am 5'3" and weigh 265lbs. I have recently found out that I have Alopecia Areata and have a huge bald area on the front of my scalp. I was thinking that maybe I could just shave my head...I don't have a lot of money, and not enough for a wig. I would buy a wig when I get a job, but that's another thing...I need to get a job soon, because I quit my last one...any advice for getting a job and being bald? I'm just looking to work in retail, but I don't think anyone would want to hire a fat, bald chick...

I am very familiar with alopecia...my father had it, as does my brother. honey it is your heart and soul that people will ultimately see. i would hire you.. You seem honest and true....please don't be too upset...you have a beautiful heart and soul. Believe in yourself. You sound wonderful and as though you would make a good friend. Believe in you......*wink*
Also: The American cancer Society has wigs....perhaps talk to them and see if they can avenue you to a society that assists people with alopecia!!!! My mother needed bras after her masectomy and they would have cost a small fortune, but i told her of the American Cancer Society and when she went it, she was surrounded by wigs and falls and so forth....they gave to her two bras, and she cried...there is ALWAYS help out there for thiose who seek it...this much I know to be true...by the way,....since alopecia is stress related it may not be permanent. I could continue writing, but would rather talk in person and since that is not possible here, please take my words as the onoly thing that i have to offer and know that my prayers are with you!!!

Sorry to hear about you condition, but me personally I have been in nursing for 25 years, and over that time you never judge a person by their looks because you never know what illness they may have. I know people are ignorant out there but all you have to do is hold your head up high. Employers are not suppose to discriminate so if you find them doing this then turn them in. I wish you all the luck, at least you are wanting to work, unlike many people today that are perfectly able would rather suck off of the system. once again good luck!
