I think that depends on your character, how much you care/used to care about him and who broke up. Personally, I can't see how anyone does it - for me once it's over, it's over. Hasta la vista, baby.

You need to set boundaries thats the big thing you need to do if your going to maintain a friendship. Also make sure you both know where you stand in the relationship cos if one still has feelings it very hard to make a friendship work. I am friends with my ex at times its hard but we seem to make better friends then lovers/partners.

You simply can't. From personal experiences, friendship rekindled the feelings i had for him and we ended up encountering the same problems that we had earlier in our relationship and still broke up. So forget friendship with an ex.

You both stay single. Thats the only way. As soon as you meet someone they wont want your ex in your life!! Believe me.

Making it work is hard....I've gone out with bestfriends, had it end, and tried to make it work...it doesn't work....because the problem is you shouldn't have to make it work to be friends, it should just happen. You shouldn't hang out with someone because you feel you should...you should hang out with someone because you want to.

only if he wants to also be friends if he or you still have alot of feelings then all your gonna do is pick up were you left off. and possibly kill the whole friendship.
