Im trying to wire my new Yamaha 7.1 A/V receiver. The simplest connection seems to be the hard part. When I connect my composite cable from "monitor out' to my TV I get a message "format not available" on the TV. I have used these same cables from my digital cable box to the TV without problems. My AV unit has upconversion. I was only trying to get the AV unit's on screen display to work. Can anyone help?

You may also want to check configrations on your TV and receiver, in order to activate those inputs and outputs on bothc systems.

i think it is because your tv does not support 7.1 surround sound. this could be the problem. check the compatibility of the tv on the manufactures website. it is very possible that you tv is no able handle a 7.1 system. that is weird that you tv would display that though. double check your connections... make sure you have you tv, dvd player and any other components hooked all up through the receiver then just one cable out to the television... also try and hit the tv/video button on the tv remote. maybe you have to go to video 2 or something like that. hope this helps.

I think that the upconvert has to be from a HDMI slot, maybe that is the probem

also maybe the aV on screen dis. will not work with the compont out puts, I read of at least 1 reciver that it doesnt work that way

what I would do is pull all of the wires out, put the 3 into the rec. part then put the 3 out into the TV with nothing else, see if that works,

sounds like a ***** of a problem

Hello,

It sounds like your A/V unit monitor output is likely to be set on HD progressive scan.
If you are hooking up to a standard TV, it will not support this type of input.
(Standard broadcast Receivers/TV’s will only support an interlaced scan input, not a progressive scan input.)
Additionally, a standard broadcast TV 300-525 lines) can not display HD (720-1080 lines) of resolution.

Look in your manual on how to do one of the following;

1)Switch the video monitor output to the composite setting position.
2)Disable or bypass the video up-converter.

There are not any distinction between the two. the two are for video basically and would possibly no longer carry the audio sign. you will could use optical or coax cable for the audio sign (digital) and rca for analog sign. To get video and audio sign you will choose an HDMI cable. Video sign on the start replaced into completed via rca jacks then upgraded to S-Video, element or composite and now HDMI (yet with audio sign). reckoning on how previous your equipment is, will dectate what style of hook up is attainable.
