Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my question, I hope you can help. My cat has been sneezing like there is no tomorrow this weekend and this morning I noticed she has two like "cold sore" blisters on the outside of her lips, other than this she is fine, eating well and is her normal playful self.

I can't make up my mind whether she has maybe caught her lip whilst playing outside or if it is connected with her sneezing?

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced their cat having these type of "blisters" and what they did about it?, do you think I should take her to the vets and get it checked out?

Many thanks!

Cats can get a virus called "Feline Herpes"....it's not the same kind of herpes that humans get...the cat will not get a cold sore.
It's more of a respitory illness.
Two of my four cats have this virus and when they are having an outbreak the first sign is sneezing, coughing...like they are trying to get up a hairball.
They can also get a runny nose and red runny eyes...the whites of their eyes can also get pink or red...just like pinkeye in a human.

Most cats are exposed to the herpes virus as kittens and become immune to it while others don't develep the immunity.

In your case the cat may have an Upper Respitory Infection.
So yes, take kitty to the Vet ASAP...you don't want to let a URI go untreated.

On a side note: You CAN NOT catch the herpes virus from your cat and you CAN NOT catch it from you.

Good luck, I hope kitty feels better soon.

It sounds like your cat has gotten an upper respiratory infection (cold). They can get sores in and around the mouth. Usually a vet will prescribe antibiotics to help fight the infection.
Look up Feline Calicivirus, Feline Herpesvirus-1. This will give you more info. The improtant thing is to make sure your kitty stays hydrated (plenty of water) and keeps eating.

Well..what id do is straightaway go to the vet.. it could be anything..
Not cold sores cause i don't they do have.. But u wouldn't want your kitty to be sick right??

Ive never had a cat that cut her lip while playing..
But maybe from fighting ..that might be the reason..
Anyway, take her/him to the vet and love your pets more..

good luck!

No they don't get cold sores as such. However, I can vaguely remember my old cat getting something like you describe and I took her to the vet to get it sorted. I think I was told to bathe it with warm salty water but I do think you should get the vet to look at it, especially as there are symptoms of sneezing as well.

for a cat they are called rodent sores. No he did not get bit. you can take him to the vet and get a shot. My little kitty gets them all the time.
