Jumbo jets like the B747 can fly even with only one engine running but you must do some trimmings especially in your flight controls! However, aviation administrations like the FAA, EASA and even the airline owners/operators would not permit the release to service a four-engined airplane running on one engine alone!! They have what they call an MEL (minimum equipment list) it's usually a book compiled and approved by airline operators to determine the minimum number of equipments, computers, furnishings, aircraft operations, etc. which are needed to declare the airplane airworthy. The items are listed per ATA chapters. You can see there the number of item installed, and the minimum number required for dispatch. As for the B747 the number of engine installed is four, and the minimum requirement for a revenue flight is also four. This means that you cannot fly the airplane with passengers using only three engines. Only ferry flights, meaning no passengers, only flight/cabin crews are on board, can flying on three engines are allowed. There are also some exemptions on experimental or tests flights.

Yes. All civil commercial twin engined aircrafts must be able to fly with one engine to the nearest airport in an emergency situation. This is requirement for certification.

depends on A/C type... on a 4 engine aircraft, the likelyhood of 3 engines failing is very low and I dont think a 747 or A340 could maintain altitude very well with only one engine... however, the 777 or A330 can fly on one engine as that is required.

Yes, it is possible, but there is some restrictions that depending of the load, altitude etc. Maybe its not possible to keep the altitude. This restriction will depend of which engine remains on.
