A high pressure optical cell capable of producing pressures up to 13.2 GPa using gem-cut single crystal cubic zirconia (CZ) anvils was developed. Maximum pressures obtainable were found to depend upon the particular pressure transmitting medium and gasket material employed. The cubic zirconia anvil high pressure cell (CZAC) provides advantages over the diamond anvil cell in optical and infrared spectroscopy while still maintaining a substantial pressure capability. To demonstrate these advantages, microRaman, optical fluorescence, and infrared absorption measurements were made on diamond, ruby, and 1,3,5-trinitrohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine samples, respectively, using the CZAC cell under high pressure conditions

cubic zirconia is really pretty! i have bought some really pretty pieces for cheap at gem and bead fairs. they were pendants w a large colored stone in the middle and the clear CZs surrounding it. they look very impressive without breaking the bank and they make me happy looking at them. theres no reason to start ur marriage off w a debt that adds stress to ur love. like people r saying, its the symbol of ur love, and u can always upgrade to something else later. dont let the jewelry industry tell u what u need to represent ur love with. im the sentimental type, so i would probably b happy w the ring i got married in...although a diamond ring later on "just bcuz" wouldnt hurt once it can b safely afforded ;)

The only way that a naked eye can tell that a ring is cubic ziconia is if the stone is really big. And even then, the only reason people think it's c.z. is because they say to themselves, "That stone is much too big to be real."

Many women choose a ring style/setting that they love, and fit it with c.z. until they can afford a diamond to put in it. If you're on a budget, this would be a good thing for you to look into.

I think it's not the that ring that counts.

Why buy an extremely expensive ring that only means something to everybody else.

If you love the man you are going marry, then he should be able to get a ring from one of those $1 lucky dip machines.

And no, you can't tell the difference, these days some cubic zarconia can look like the real thing.

My next door neighbor has a beautiful CZ ring and I always assumed that it was real until she told me it was fake. I think they look exactly like diamonds and would never be able to tell the difference unless its like a really huge stone that no normal person would be able to afford, then you can tell they are fake.

If your fiance is hung up on a real stone, have you thought about a less expensive gem stone. You can even get white sapphires that look like diamonds, that way you can have something real which will make him happy, but something that wont break the bank which will make you happy.

Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with cubic zirconia, and the naked eye most likely can't make the distinction - well, unless you're really looking and you know what you're looking for. My advice: get something you can afford now that'll make you - and your wallet - happy. You can always trade up when you have the money to do so. Remember that getting married is not about the size of the rock on your finger (unless, of course, you're totally shallow) but about love.

A Cubic zirconia is not bad, but it's still a fake. The only way you can tell by just looking at it, is that it spreads more colour then a real diamond. But you have to know it to see it.
It's quite strong too, so normally it won't just break.

its perfect, just get a gold band with no stone.. thats better than a fake one.

The cool part is you can upgrade from there every anniversary. Unlike those people that run out and drop 20k on a ring and have nowhere to go but up 10 years later.

Zirconia is realistic looking. Its durable and expensive looking but one way to tell its a fak diamond is dropping it in water. The zirconia will disappear and a real diamond will still be visable. If your fiance isnt planning on dropping her ring in water then it should be fine.

The ring is a symbol.

The value of the stone is not important.

Don't go into exessive debt over a rock.

You can always have the stone replaced with a real diamond later... like on the 10th or 25th anniversary.
