To have back pain you do not necessarily have to lift a heavy weight. It can occur due to twisting and bending though lifting nothing. A muscular pain will hurt when you twist turn or bend on the muscle that you have torn. If it is a real back ache due to the spine then the ache will travel from the damaged area down the leg via the sciatic nerve. It could be the left or right leg. It will hurt when you walk and will effect the way you walk. Best cure for back pain is mild exercise like walking. Total bed rest is no longer recommended. Best of luck with it and see a doctor if it persists.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. A Kidney infection gives you continues pain, a dull sickly ache which gets worse within a few days. You will also have a high temperature and shivering. I think you have strained your lower muscles, You do not have had to lift anything to have done this. Perhaps you have bent over to pick something up, it can be as simple as that, or you may have turned to sharply from the waist. If it goes on for more than a week, see your Dr, in the meantime rest as much as possible to give the muscles time to heal
A massage will help this but use grapeseed oil with an aromatherapy oil mixed with it. Lavender and Geranium oil is good for this Over the age of 18 use 3 drops of each to 10ml of G/seed oil under that age is 1 drop of each oil to 15ml of G/Seed

See a doctor first. If you doctor can't fix it, try alternative methods.
Accupuncture is pretty effective with nerve and muscular pain reduction. Find an accupuncturist in your area (who practices traditional accupuncture - not electrical stimulation) and see if he/she can help you.
I'm currently using accupuncture to relieve my back pain - it's beginning to work. I am already feeling a significant reduction of pain. You need to get this accupuncture treatment at least once a week for a few weeks.
By the way, I've tried many different therapies - chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy. They all help, but I still have this chronic pain in the back, so I'm trying accupuncture. So far, so good.

I have suffered with back pain for a long time and had two lots of surgery...I got a cold last year and managed to cough the L4/L5 disk out the side so a bulge was created and pressed on the nerves. If the pain is going not only through your lower back and hips, but to your legs, I would have it checked out by seeing your doctor and having a CT scan done to check.

Could be that your pelvis is out of alignment.
If you stand upright and get someone to put your hands on your hips from behind you, they may be able to see a diffenence in height between one side and the other - If this is the case - a few simple phisio moves will sort it out.
But if I was you, don't take any chances with your back, get the quack to check it out anyway

I have been through lots of back pain and it sounds muscular to me. Try resting for a day or two, but no longer, a heating pad may help too. If not, I would go to a chiropractor, that sure helped me! Take care.
