At it's present stage, no Vista is not better than XP. Primarily because there are still bugs within the system that have to be found and worked out. For the past 3+ years Microsoft has been working on Vista, previously known as Windows Longhorn.
Microsoft aquires product information from end-users, this is the final test for their product. End-users provide information to program problems encountered and Microsoft fixes those problems inhouse and then sends out their updates., those little programs that take up space on your computer that Microsoft says you need to install on your computer.
If I were you I would wait several months if you have thoughts about purchasing Vista. I have had the program on one of my laptops for about 3 years when they first start testing it. It's cool but the bugs warrant waiting before it becomes a mainstay like XP. "Mainstay" being totally relative!!

Win2k is better than both.Ubuntu Linux is better than both. Apple even went down the tubes with their crossed signals that are based in the bad DRM junk.
Peter Gutmann wrote a very nice article on it. I agree with his opinion on the rootkit that we all allowed when we accepted the EULA.

It night be a wunderkind system that will do something good, to early to tell, but the Hardware upgrade needed to run it is more of a stumbling block for the RYO/Build it yourself and more geared towards buy new junk that will be outdated and not able to upgrade because the 'keys' and user ID does not match the original hardware and info gathered by the licensing boondoggle of hoops and legalize that one needs to bootstrap and run a series of data strings.
I like learning and enjoying laughter, close the source code and a user cannot fix a simple error or find a solution to a problem, maybe next patch will fix it. That is the true reverse technology.
I could fix my typewriter, if it broke, I could fix my bicycle, when it broke. You cannot fix a thing that you paid for because it is broken. Maybe you can, but it is against the law to try.

Vista is still new and has more holes than swiss cheese. It is also gestapo land with windows not letting them put it on other computers without breathing down your throat or wanting a fee then there is the music thing you cannot even take your own cd's and burn them to your hard drive. Big brother is more like it. I have not heard one good things about windows vista yet. It even dosen't utalize the duo core technology to it's fullest extent.
