Since thoughts are energy, and our whole world is energy, sure why not. I think it does anyway! Like energy attracts like energy as far as thoughts go. When you send good energy out (like prayers), you get more good energy flowing back. I think it helps the other person because you directed your good energy to them via prayers.

No, once you are dead it is too late. This is why it is important for everyone to be born again and accept Jesus as your Savior now. It says it in
John 3:3 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Saying prayers for the dead will do nothing at all, because once a person dies they either go to Heaven or hell. There is no purgatory or any of that. It is all in the Holy Bible and it is the truth. Don't let anyone lie to you. Prayers for the dead are for the living to feel better, just like at funerals. The dead cannot hear you.

Honestly I don't think it is for the one who has died. I think it's more to help the ones who survived. It's part of the letting go process. Those who have gone on before us. Lived their lives and once they passed on. They came upon their final judgement. That is why we should live life as a Christian and do everything we can to ensure our place in heaven. Good luck and God bless!

"God, only cries for the living, cuz it's the living that are so far from home!"

Yes, it is a natural impulse and it confirms what scripture says about the doctrine of purgatory. This doctrine was trashed only 500 years ago by Protestants.

No. The one who has died has made their choices, and is resting in the grave until the judgment, and the resurrection.
