I am looking to adopt a kitten from a home and not a shelter. I live in south eastern massachusetts but i am willing to drive to Rhode Island or anywhere in MA. I have another cat, she is very little and needs a play mate. I would love to be able to adopt an older cat but I think she would adjust better to a kitten because it would be smaller than her.

Look in your local newspaper, but be aware that you'll need to take the kitten to a Vet to have it checked BEFORE you let it interact with your other cat.

If you go to a shelter, the kitten will have already been checked by a Vet.

For free kittens the best place to look is in your local newspaper. But you can find them as low as $15 at petfinder.com which most are already spay/neutered as well as the vaccinations are up to date.
I know for that is what I charge and I don't adopt out any cats/kittens unless they have been fixed to help alleviate the overpopulation problem.
Shelter pets need a home and you would be saving a life so please adopt.
It really depends on the cat some of the older ones would be OK with a kitten but you would have better chances of them getting along if it is the same age.
Good luck!
