I am going to say on Broadway and 103th w and would like to know until what time the subway line 1 runs and if that is a safety area.

New York has an advantage over almost every other city in the world in that every subway station can be reached at all times. You can find out the overnight schedule for the 1-line (and all other lines) at www.mta.info. The neighborhood you describe is just south of Columbia University and is reasonably safe. Like anywhere, use your street smarts to avoid problems.

Subways run 24 hours a day, but late at night they will run less frequently, but they still run. Also, you should not have any problems in that area. I lived in Manhattan for 18 years.

This is the city that never sleeps, the train run non stop, just slower off peak. I never take the subway alone late at night, i tend to just get a cab but if your not on your own you'll be perfectly fine, Im just more lazy then anything. Enjoy the city.

Just wanted to add, that if you are here on weekends, check the mta's wedsite since they do sometimes close some stations to do track work. It happens more than we would like, but it is the cost of having a 24 hour subway.
