you know my son does that he is 2 also (turned 2 on the 25 of January ) and if i laugh while he is asleep he does too so i think they might be able to hear whats going on around them.
oh and i have to share the other night he was in bed fast asleep not moving or nothing and his bed is in my room so i was laying in bed and all the sudden he start yelling spongebob while dead asleep i couldn't stop my self from laughing at it. he has done things like that b4 like just started laughing loud out of no where while fast asleep its great.

I think they are dreamong. My son does funny things like that. SOmetimes he'll be just laughing out loud in his sleep. or he will call out "hey"...it's very funny.
