The main point is that God is everywhere and that religion doesn't matter as long as God is in your heart.

That's the way of science. There are thousands of religions in the world. Most of us are born in one and never given a choice. The moral thing to do is to familiarize your self with as many as you can and then decide if you decide to follow a religion. Unfortunately this is not so. There is no point that is common to all religions. For most of them their basic premise is in the realm of fantasy. You can put almost all religions under one heading and call it the God Hypothesis. So far the only evidence we have is negative.

Your question is very nice and thoughtful. The essential teachings of all bonafide religions sum up to the following few points:
1.This material world is a place of suffering where birth, old age, disease and death take place.
2.It is unnatural for us – living beings , to be subjected to the miseries of this world, as it is unnatural for the fish to be out of water. Therefore we have to return back to the spiritual kingdom of God where we all originally belong to.
3.There is a spiritual process which one should follow to purify his consciousness from material contamination and reawaken his/hers dormant love of God.
At different times, places and circumstances different prophets and scriptures try to raise the awareness of the particular people they preach to. That’s how the different religions arise. But real religion is one, since as you wrote, the essence remains the same.

It is up to the individual to decide which is the best for them.
Education is also about self learning and exploration.
If you think that every thing we need to know in our life can just be thought in schools, then you are being no better than an automaton after programming

given that it is history lessons and not religious eduction
i would imagine that the focus of giving many religions would be the impact it has had through the ages
and yes you would need many to cover that
