My mum has not been well. Her liver enzymes went as high as 1100. The doctor thinks she may have liver cancer because the enzymes are so high. What are liver enzymes?

enzymes that the organ releases. When an organ is damaged it releases it's own specific enzymes. The heart,pancreas and liver all have certain enzymes they release. Liver enzymes can go up for different reason too, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and as you mentioned, cancer. Hope your mum feels better soon! Liver enzymes can also go up when surrounding organs are having trouble and blocking liver blood flow, like gallbladder problems.
