What are your opinions on why some people ask questions, and then do not allow members to contact them through Email or IM? The Email is secretly transfered through Yahoo and does not give one the question askers true email. Are these people afraid of criticism, people challenging their info or what? please chime in with your thoughts.

Good question. I have had comments or questions that I would have liked to explore further and 90% of the time there is no e-mail contact. That goes for both positive and not so positive comments / questions.

The times people have sent me e-mail regarding my answers to their questions I always reply to their comments. And 80% of the time we either come to a common understanding or simply agree to disagree. No real animosity or ranting. In many cases it was helpful to clear up some mis-communication or question. Heck...half the time they ask to be connected on 360.

But hey.....each to their own.

I don't want to be bombarded with spam. People will take the opportunity to email or IM simply because they can. There are a lot of immature and childish people asking/answering questions, and I don't want to hear about it. Since it's relatively easy to change your username, even identifying something as "spam" will only work until they've changed their username.

I don't email/IM anyone, and I don't want to be emailed/IMed.

Probably for the same reason I don't show it.

Your e-mail is also your login id.

I don't want anyone to know my login id, that's why I use a different public profile in Yahoo Answers and in Yahoo Chat.

I would allow Im's, but yahoo has it set up where , if you allow Im's, they im your login id and not the public profile id , you answer the questions with.

Not even to mention all the nuts in yahoo.

If I ask a question in Yahoo Answer's, I expect it to be answered in Yahoo Answers.

If I answer a question in Yahoo Answers, and the asker wants more info or to contact me, they can edit their question and ask me to contact them.

Because you will probably notice the ones that have this option of not getting email or IMs are the ones who deliberately say things to be outrageous and make peole mad. It is more fun to do this remotely, like a voice from a mountain top than to deal with a person thru email.
I'm not saying everybody who does this is a trouble-maker for example younger persons probably shouldn't be getting email from random people, but adults can usually handle a dissenting voice.
Also, people who support your statements sometimes email to show their appreciation for what you say.

Some people don't want to be bothered by other people... My sister comes on here and is a very private person and doesn't leave her contact details , she doesn't write abusive questions or give abusive replies ... she just doesn't want to be bothered... but that's just her ... i notice a lot of people who write the most abusive questions hide their mail ...
each to their own i guess ...

There is a choice for questioners not to reveal their email addresses. Thus, most of them are very brave to have bad questions. This privilege must not be abused.

Personally, I think you're on to something....

I don't allow IM's because I don't like being interrupted while doing other things....but, yeah....why not allow an email?

It's not like you're gonna get a bunch of spam mail or anything.

Well, no - for example, you asked this, I will answer it, and there is nothing to email each other about.
