From Day One, Israel has absorbed billions of dollars of economic aid from America, and who knows how much in military aid. How can they with a straight face call themselves "independent"?

There are plenty of Third World countries that get American aid. Is Israel a Third World country? If not, why are they still on the American tit after about sixty years? When will they become self-supporting? When will they stand on their own feet? Until they do, are they really independent like a real state, not just a garrison?

Israel is often described as "our ally". What justification exists for considering Israel an ally of thr US? What have they ever done for us? How much Israeli blood has been shed in America's interests?

Well, American government help Israel because Israel have a strong lobby in the USA. Saying that i must say this:
Israel is a racial democracy its called the Jewish state.
Israel dose not have Constitution where you can spell the Rights of none Jews in the Jewish state.
Israel is occupying other ppl land.
Israel is a garrison where most Israeli are armed and member of the army. Israel is a war zone.
Israel receive more than 20 billions $ each year from American taxpayers without their consent: 3.7B$ from the Congress Foreign Aid Program, 10B$ Free Loans Guarantee, and 6 to 10 B$ from USA Tax System Loophole as Charity money deducted from American JEWS Taxs to be sent to Israeli Settlements.

actually Israel only started to receive those billions of dollars after the 1967 war. Please check your "facts"

Also that aid represents less than 2% of Israels GDP. I doubt you can call it key to their survival.

Personally I think the aid dose more harm than good, but I am not an Israeli politician so I cannot do anything about it.

as for ally do you have any idea how much intelligence the Government of Israel has provided the United States?

If not then I would suggest you not comment on what you do not know.

Is America independent? Last I checked the national debt is astronomical (to countries like France) and growing, so in a sense America is relying on other countries money as well. I guess that means that America isn't independent. "Independent like a real state". I guess America isn't a real state either. Interesting view of the world.
Israel is America's ally in that they are the ONLY democracy in the middle east. If you want to talk about Israeli blood being shed over American interests, read the history behind the Yom Kippur War of 1973. This was by far Israel's most devastating war as judged by soldiers lost, though Israel did end up victorious. The primary reason for this high loss count was America not permitting Israel to do anything that could be perceived as an act of aggression, including pre-emptive strikes (worked amazingly well in 67) or even calling up reserves and stocking the border. All this despite both U.S. and Israeli intelligence showing increasing border activity and concentration by the Syrians. 'Had they struck first, according to Henry Kissinger, they would not have received "so much as a nail"'.
If you want to know why America is supporting Israel, it has very little to do with Israel itself. The support of Israel is in America's own interest, which is also why it supports Egypt. America wants a stable middle-east, and ideally one that is democratic and modern. Egypt is the only other country that could be considered democratic and modern as well as moderate, so they also receive US aid. Unstable middle east = no oil, bad for business.

Countries cannot be judged by the ability to "stand on their own two feet". I think all would agree that America is an independent and real state, despite that fact that the national debt is huge after 330 years, and despite the fact that they never would have won the revolutionary war without France's help. To you it may seem like 60 years is a long time, but it isn't. On top of that in the brief 60 years of Israel's existence, it has fought 5 wars, as well as dealing perpetually with terrorism and the threat of new violence. All that requires a large standing army and a full draft which is expensive. In America's first 60 years, it had fought 2 wars, losing the second, and besides for that existed in blissful isolation with little threats of violence. If you go back even further til before the state was founded, Israel struggled against the same British until the British gave up, and then struggled against the neighboring arab countries. America only had to worry about 1 of those listed above.
So all in all, I don't think you've provided enough reasons to justify Israel not being independent or "a real state".
