Suppose you write 500 in one day. Multiply that by 365. Multiply that by... 80. Plus the extra 80,000 words you wrote in school... I'll let you do it, even though I don't think those are the right numbers. Oh well, about 10,000,000... :P

You realize with the advent of computers in homes this is an impossible question to ask or even guess at, in addition, ipods and wireless systems, cell phones etc. First you'd have to determine what the "average american" is in regards to literacy skills and access to materials.
