this is news to me where did you here that ?
having checked up on the net (thanks Peter) my initial interpretation is that it is a blanket ban is being brought in for radar detectors or sat nav that has a speed camera detection facility. There may well be exceptions but it is a fact that from today most devices would appear to be illegal to use

I've not heard that, and (especially as it's a slow news day) I would have thought it would make the news headlines.

anyway, they were pretty much useless. I had a laser/ radar detector before I got my tom tom system, and It was confusing and difficult to use.

{edit} Mike L - you have a very simplistic view of speed cameras. I guess that you dont drive, yourself. Many speed cameras are simply money raising devices designed to catch motorists who are driving well within the conditions of the road, but a few miles above the speed limit.
There is no earthly reason why a road is 'safe' - in any weather condition - at 40 mph, and 'not safe' at 45 mph.
It is well documented that people who use gps speed cam detectors are safer drivers than 'average' road users.
I use a Tom Tom with GPS software and I am pretty sure that I am MORE aware of my speed AT ALL TIMES, than 99% of the other drivers on the road

Don't speed and the question doesn't need to be asked. Does the radar detect a child on the road doing 0.6 mph at a zebra crossing? Does it tell you your mum is trying to turn right on the road 100m ahead round a blind corner? Does it give you a feeling that somehow you have beaten the system? Get a life, don't take one.

As far as I know, the government intends to ban the use of radar/laser detectors but has not yet done so. I'm sure you'll hear about it long before it actually happens. GPS will not be banned (although the lasar/radar detector module may be).

They are trying to ban them but so far have been unsuccessfull,
The courts ruled that radar detectors slow people down at accident black spots, which is what speed cameras are designed to do.
but i believe they are trying to get them banned.

it would'nt surprise me, I'm sure the police would love to gather extra revenue from motorists, after all we are a police state.

If you don't speed then you won't need one anyway.

Of course none of us exceed the speed limits - do we!
