Ginko is a plant, the extract of which was thought to improve memory. I haven't got a link off-hand but studies with Alzheimer's patients have shown no improvement when Ginko is used.
Alzheimer's is a type of dementia. The brain becomes overrun with plaque and tangles. Neurons die. (They cannot be replaced.) It affects everyone slightly differently depending on what parts of their brains are most affected, but in the end you can't remember anything. Not who you are, not who your family and loved ones are, not how to chew or swallow food, or even how to breathe. People make all kinds of jokes about it but it's not funny. Those who have the disease suffer. In the early and middle stages, they KNOW something is wrong, they KNOW they can't remember, they KNOW they can't do things anymore.
You really asked too many unrelated questions. I'll leave it to someone else to answer the rest.

long term memory
short term memory

he hippocampus is one of the more important parts of the brain that processes memories. Old information and new information, or memories, are thought to be processed and stored away in different areas of the cerebral cortex, or the "gray matter" of the brain - the largest, outermost part of the brain.

things to improve memory- crossword puzzles, reading the daily newspaper, keeping up with current events

heredity effects memory-
if Alzheimer's runs in the family ( Grandmother, a parent, siblings) you might be predisposed by having the gene for possible onset

Ginkgo extract seem to have three effects on the human body: it improves blood flow (including microcirculation in small capillaries) to most tissues and organs; it protects against oxidative cell damage from free radicals; and it blocks many of the effects of PAF (platelet aggregation, blood clotting) that have been related to the development of a number of cardiovascular, renal, respiratory and CNS (Central Nervous System) disorders. Ginkgo can be used for intermittent claudication.

consuming 2 Aspirins a day will produce the same effects for thinning the blood and a lot cheaper
