I agree that according to scripture God made the world in 6 days. BUT, we don't know how long a "day" was, only that it was a unit of time. The days in Genesis begin to be counted before there is a sun and moon, so the reference can't be to the what we refer to as a day, one full rotation of the earth as it orbits the sun including day- facing the sun, and night, facing away from the sun. So, we have no idea how many "days" as we know them, the days of creation really were. I don't read Hebrew, and usually instead read several translations to get a better picture of what the original intent was.
Tonight, the Bible closest to hand is the Jerusalem Bible. In verse 2 it says "on the seventh day God completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh day after all the work he had been doing." Verse 3 says "God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he had rested because of all his work of creating." It sounds like an attempt to keep the tense that you are talking about. Verse 3 sounds more final. But if the seventh day is the same length as the first six, we still don't know how long that is. Did the days get longer or shorter after the creation of the sun and moon on the fourth day? I don't have the answer, but it is something to think about.
We tend to put limits on God, and define what God does in human terms in human scale. We have to remember that God is so much larger than we are, and experiences time differently. We are limited to a three dimensional, linear experience of time; God experiences everything. Just by adding the fourth dimension, time, it means that God doesn't experience time in a linear fashion. I don't see how we could possibly posit how many years were between verse 2 and verse three, and I don't know that it is important. What I like to remember is that at the end of each day in the creation account, God saw that what he had done was good. I like to think that when he rested on that seventh day, it was to revel in the work he had done, and love it, and see its goodness. That is what we should be doing on the sabbath; appreciating all of creation, thanking God for it, loving it, and seeing that indeed, it is good.

God is of a spiritual composition; therefore, He doesn't need to rest (although He chose to break from His work) ! Seven is a number used in the Bible, to denote "completion". Remember; Adam and Eve were not created at this point in time and they were very much a part of creation. God is referencing the number of days He took to create what He did, in. The real rendition of the "Beginning" should read: "In "A" [ not "the"] beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth". God was re-creating the earth's surface to support human and animal life re: fauna and flora. The earth was already in existence at this point or place in time and had "become without form and void" -( the original Hebrew states that the earth was in a state of chaos ) at this the time, just prior to God re-shaping it. The real "Beginning" can be found in John Chapter 1 verse 1 & 2, of the New Testament.

God did not need to "rest" as if He was fatigued. The word"rest" here can be translated "ceased", meaning He finished His creative work - after 6 days. The fact that this cannot refer to creation being incomplete until Moses can be found in the commandment "Remember the Sabbath, and keep it holy, for in six days God created the Heavens and the Earth". Also, Jesus interpreted scripture this way - He kept the sabbath, and quoted Moses to His disciples.

Yes he did finish creating everything in 6 days which would have been a Friday and rested on the 7th as you know was Saturday. The Sabbath is still supposed to be the 7th day of the week, the day we rest and worship God.But believe it or not, satan who wants to do the opposite of God and make wrong everything God has made right wants his own Sabbath. So satan has managed to cancel out Gods Holy day and trick everyone into worshipping on his day which is Sunday. When the anti-christ makes his entrance impersonating Jesus he will make Sunday the day the whole world worships him and the majority of the earths population will be fooled into doing it.But yes,it took only 6 days for God to create everything, incredible isn't it?
