In the early 80s a device called kitchen computer was intoduced in USA. It was very expensive. It had many recipes stored in it and also gave the provision of storing our own recipes by entering the data through means of a keyboard that came with it. It resembled a mini piano in size(very bulky). It also came with a tray and knife attachment to cut vegetables. Very few of these were sold and more than half of those were dumped as the housewives preferred their own kitchen tops and found it tiresme to search for required items. The company soon went bankrupt. Hope this answered what you expected

technically anything that can be built can have some purpose, either entertainment, heat source, conversation piece, etc.
