It works the same way in the virtual world as it does in the real world. You need transmission and receiving software that "tunes in" or dedicates to a specific module, one that can be shared by all. Then you see an array of people using web cames on the screen in those discrete matrix areas and everyone can hear each other.

Unlike telephone methods, such as 3 way calling, everyone is on a discrete virtual "line" or thread.

This usually require specail, dedicated software that everyone has installed.

You have to think of it as a rock band on stage, each person sings, each person has a wireless mic. Each mic has it's own receiver. All the receivers are put into the mixing board on different channels. Each mic and reciever is "tuned" to a different frequency or channel.

That way they don't step on each other.

YOu need a fast internet line and a fast computer to do this with more than one other person.

video conferencing is using a camera (can be a web camp or using 3G phone with camera). Basically it work by seeing and talking or meeting with people via video which is far away.
