I've always been told that Butterflies mean new beginnings. I got a butterfly tattoo on my back after my divorce was done. I'd have to say its my favorite tattoo. You can also just tell the tattoo artist what's on your mind and they are so creative, they could probably just come up with something for you.

Tattoos are personal.
You don't need to be an artist or have to ink up something meaningful yourself. Tattoos are a marking that follows you for years and years (assuming you don't laser it). A tattoo should not be the fairy you saw on page 7 of a tattoo magazine because you thought it was cute. It needs to speak to you. You need to be able to wake up in the morning, look at it and smile. An aesthetic tattoo will wrinkle and distort with time while a personal tattoo will age like wine.
I designed my tattoos to commemorate the stones life has thrown on my path until this day. Where I've been and where I am know. Sort of a reminder to breathe.

I def agree with the pheonix or butterfly, yet you can also make it more personal by finding a quote or a script that really speaks to you and have that added to the tattoo.
You can also try going on google and type in symbolic tattoos or tattoo and their meaning.
Good Luck and Congrats.

Depending on what you're going for, snakes are used a lot to symbolize change, b/c they shed their skin. But if you're a girl, a snake may not be where you wanna go. Also, flowers- a lot of times people choose cherry blossoms to symbolize change. Congrats on losing the weight and enjoy getting your tattoo.

i agree with sarah, a pheonix, its a symbol of being re-born, rising up form the ashes, the butterfly also symbolises rejuvenation, whatever you pick, should be something you like, and the reason you are having it is symbolism enough, i had all of mine for a reason but they dont necessarily "look" like why i had them done if you know what i mean, but they still mean a great deal to me, congrats on the weight loss, and the "new" you, good luck

I like the phoenix idea too. I also like the snake idea (you could go with an orobous -or however you spell that- the snake swallowing his own tail. It is the symbol of eternal change and rebirth)
I'm not as wild about the butterfly idea. Butteflies just seem a little cliche and a little to .. . . . . I dunno 'pretty'
Spirals in any form represent rebirth and change too.

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is fantastic! Take the suggestions here & make one your own...really think about this. Its a remarkable thing you did (I just started, losing weight is a b*tch) ....don't follow up by doing something stupid to your body, keep thinking about it.. Something really great will come to you!
