I've been getting pierced since I was 18 (24 now)..and just recently found out, I was suppose to be tipping my piercers all along (oops). How much is a good tip? Today I got my rook pierced. It cost 20 dollars, I tipped 5 dollars. Is that enough or should I have tipped more?

I love my rook. It hurt but i still like it. It cost 20 dollars to get pierced, so I figured a 5 dollar tip was okay, but I wasn't sure.

If the person piercing me owns the business, and they charge 50 or more dollars for a piercing, then I probably wont tip, seeing's as I know the needle and the jewelry they used on me probably didnt cost more than 10 dollars total. But if the price is cheap, and the person doesnt own the business, then a tip seems in order.

I always tip atleast 20%. I use to work in a shop and generally ( not always) The owner of the shop gets 50% of the sale. So if you were charged 20$ your peircer got 10$ wich isnt alot when you consider the cost of jewelry and needles and any sterile products.

Just like tipping any other person for a service, 10-15% is a good starting point, depending on how good the service was.

Sometimes anything is better than nothing and ANY tip is appreciated. 5-10 bucks is usually fine and its what I tend to get. At the same time, I have a few dedicated piercees who will give me a tip at least the same cost of the piercing. You're fine, don't worry.

Some BodMod artists like getting cookies or figurines or DVDs... though extra cash is usually VERY much needed. Depending on the time of year, clients may not be pouring in. Just something that shows that you appreciate a job well-done.

It just depends, I don't tip mine because they are so expensive anyway. I just paid $85 for my belly button which took a total of ten minutes to finish. But if you do tip, the standard is 10% I believe.

I think that is good enough as a tip. Five dollars is really good, especially just for a pierce, I think that is enough.

Holy crap! I didn't realize they're recognized as a tip-business as well! What is the purpose of paying for the service? They already get $20 - $75 for a few minutes of your pain.
Well, thanks for clueing me in. I guess I'm just going to start doing it myself and save the money AND the tip!

I would say that the amount you tipped was about right. And you know what they say, the more you tip the less it will hurt.
