No I do not agree. Unless there are some severe financial situations where the family cannot possibly afford room and board, then I think the family should make every attempt to have the student stay on campus. Here is why:
1) Provides access to study groups and campus services
2) Limits dependence on transportation to and from campus
3) Fosters independence and responsibility from parents
4) Minimizes exposure to family distractions not conducive to the student's well being and learning experience
5) Helps in developing social relationships
6) Motivates the student to be self-reliant by making adult decisions and learning to live under another set of rules.

I believe it's better to live with parents while in college because you can stay more focused on your school work, because you don't have room-mates talking and being loud while you are studying..most students can go in their room at home to study and not be bothered. Also, it does save money housing-wise. As far as saving money though, I guess it depends how far away from college you live, but I can guarantee, you'll spend less on gas money living at home, than paying room and board and for all your food, etc. But, I do also believe that on a personal level you would need to weigh out the pros and cons of both to make your final decision.

It depends on the type of person you are. Me personally, I moved away to go to school and i ended up staying off campus. If you are not as outgoing as you would like, it's better to stay on campus because it will be easier to meet new people. If you're trying to save money, then staying at home will be the best thing for you (and you'll have a nice home-cooked meal). It's all about what you're looking to get out of your college experience.... Hope this helps!

Yes and no.
Yes, because it is much cheaper to live at home with parents than on campus, and because with more parental control there might be less partying, etc.
No, because to get the real college experience, kids really need to get away from home. Doing so also helps build responsibility and forces the students to learn life skills like time management, budgeting their money, etc.

It would make more sense: parents would be close to their children, and more able to assist them when in trouble. Besides, college is a 4-6 year excuse to not have a regular job in exchange for a chance at a better life, so why go off and live on your own when you really can't afford it in the first place?

if you do not want them to experience a good life then yes it is a good idea to keep them home. However, you might turn your child into the "waterboy". Moma says....
