You did not say if he was Christian or not. My prayers are with you.
Almost 40 years ago when my best friend was 16 and I was 17 we were both Christians. He died in an auto accident. I had great comfort during my grief knowing that he was with Christ. The last words we said to each other were "I'll see you later".
I suspect I'll see him sooner than later now. Got a lot more to see now also besides him..
Believe, cry, have sorrow, and pain, suffer it now for it is a common human experience and I will pray for you.
In John 11:39 Jesus wept too when his friend Lazarus died. And Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Jesus is the God of the living and not of the dead. Matthew 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

If what you believe about God is true - then you have a 50/50 chance of having a consequence to "diving in and out of faith." ... In all the events of life, your faith as well as mine will be tested. It's hard to believe that you will soon be with your best friend of 10 years who recently died in a crash, but time is fleeting even though it seems to go slowly when we are in pain. I suggest that you seek out those who DO believe, and listen to their reasons for putting their faith in God. As you begin to avoid the "many people that don't believe" your faith will take on new meaning, for you will no longer "think as a child" but will accept God's grace and mercy to learn to trust in Him. Pray that your dear friend had a moment of revelation in that accident to accept the love of God and go with Him. God's love undoubtedly saved him from a world that is turning more and more away from grace. Remember, every one who seeks -finds. Seek God's love, and you will find it - along with all the answers you now cannot find. Peace. Wisdom Speaks!

Hi there. i have found Christ again after falling away. but not in a Fundamental sense. i believe jesus was a Jew by blood but i believe Jesus knew the TRUTH and that the Truth does exist. All is interconected and it is the Heart that is most important - i have trned back to my Bible, but am learning to read between the lines much better - if Jesus had let everyone know the truth too soon he would have died before his fated time - the Jewish elite would not have tolerated it. I believe Jesus was a Pantheist. it all fits together and faith is very real, because all is interconnected. I have not turned my back on science and this is not necessary. I hope you find much happiness in this journey through Life. I needed to endure much pain to find the Truth, but i had mocked the Truth and have been "found" again. I pray, although God knows my toughts before i have to utter them! - that you will find the truth too, because it is out there!!! Love Kate

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's death and don't know what to say that won't sound overly simplistic, so I guess all I can really say is that I'll be praying for you and that I'd like to help you sort through faith issues in any way that I can. I've been through probably more crises in life than a lot of people, and while I don't claim to know why God allows some things to happen to certain people and not to others, I've seen His faithfulness over and over again. If I can help in any way, please drop me a line at chad@jesusfreak.com. Take care.

I know its hard with all the people that seem so against Christianity, but it has always been like that, people are just more vocal about it now, the more Christians speak out the more they will speak out against us and pick out or faults and mistakes... My reasoning for continuing to stay Christian is the things in my life that i feel only a higher power could have brought me through. Because I truly believe when I call out to Jesus he hears me... and i know its hard to keep believing when people we know have died in tragic ways while others survive, but created a world where everyone makes choices and sometimes those choices leave us in tragedy, I'm sorry to hear about your loss, and I hope that you can find you faith in God to pull you through this time!

whoa, heavy. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
The only way to maintain your faith is by practicing it. If you fall, you fall, just like a baby when it is learning to walk. You don't get it right the first time, or even the second or third. When you are dealt such an Earth stopping blow, you can be set back, or use it like a sling-shot.
when my cousin died, I immersed myself in prayer. I was determined to pray for her soul, and at the beginning a message: How can one feel joy and sorrow at the same time? I understood the sorrow, but I did not understand the joy. I think it was because I was glad that I knew her, even for the short time we had together on this Earth. That was my joy.
At the end of the prayer, which took many many weeks (It is tradition in my culture to pray for the dead for forty days), she came to me in thanks. She said to me: "Don't worry about me. I'm here. I'm right here. Thank you."
Once in a while I'll say: "All my relatives!" when I'm in deep trouble and full of worries, and she's one of them that comes to help. I can tell it's her because I write with her handwriting.
The bonds of love cannot be broken. Not even by death. This I deeply believe, and with my entire being.

Both excellent websites that provide reasons to believe.I can sympathise with you.I,too, have had a good friend die.I went through a period of being angry at God,then doubting because of what had happened.I started studying the enormous amount of evidence confirming the Biblical account, and the history and reliability of the New Testament, among other things.I was also witness to several things that there is no naturalistic explanation for.
I'm now firmly convinced that my faith has been well placed.

If you're questioning, I think you should relax, not worry about coming to any conclusions now, and take some time to explore other religions and philosophies. Even if you do decide to return to Christianity, you'll probably be more secure in your beliefs when you have more knowledge to have made your decision from. And you just might find something else feels more natural and works better for you. Either way, it can't hurt. After all, what's wrong with being knowledgeable about other faiths and cultures?

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, except it was my brother who died. I turned to God for guidance and started seeking the truth. Not just within the Bible, but from wherever God led me to find truth. Today, I am no longer a Christian, but a Deist. I do believe, wholeheartedly, in the power of God, just not in the ridiculous and slanderous stories told about "him" in the Bible.
