I have a 22 month old toddler and she has close to a year old hair. Her hair is nice and strong and makes her more cute. I love her hair so much and I never intended to ever cut it. But lately everyone is saying I should cut it.They say its not healthy for her. They say her hair takes most of the nutritions. How true is this? She is petite and she weighs about 10kg

No that's not true...it is not taking any nutrition and I honestly doubt that your daughter's hair is long to the point that it's taking away nutrients??? My daughter is 21 months...I've trimmed her bangs but I let the back grow out. I've never heard of that before.

ok so she's about 22 lbs, I'm american so I use standard, but we understand each other. YOU are her MOTHER. Tell everyone else to MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS. She is petite, perhaps that's just how she is, perhaps she was premature. But your hair is dead cells just like it is with your fingernails, Are you sure she only weighs 10kg? my 15 mos old weighs the same. She drinks lots of milk, and eats what is recommened. I don't know if the European Pediatrics Association has a growth chart but here in the states, we do, my 15 mos old is at the 50th percentile of most children her age. My oldest who is 7 was hardly in the 10th. she was born almost a month early, weighed only 5 1/2 lbs ( 2.63kg) and she weighed 10kg at 18 months. Bottom line, you're her mother and you do what you know is best for her. If you have questions about her nutrients and her health, ask your pediatrician. Don't rely on the truth of an old folklore teller.

I have never heard the hair takes most of our bodies nutrition. This is honestly I think a personal choice of yours. If her hair is very long and she has a ton of split ends then I would suggest getting a trim, but seeing that she is 22 months that probably isn't the case. Every child is different, and quite honestly at this age we still get to decide their hairstyles, clothes, foods, enjoy it while you can! If you love her hair the way it is, then leave it that way.

I've heard of some strange things before in my life but never this. A womans beauty is her hair, which goes back to bibical times. You shouldn't cut her hair, be your self and be proud of your little sunshine, leave the locks where they are. Being petite as that, long is good, long is healthy.

Hair is made of carotene and it will grow no matter what so leave it alone. The only problem she may face is the weight of the hair, should it be thick and heavy as it may cause strain on her neck. She may get headaches and complain of neck aches. Try to alleviate the weight by using elastics and combs to hold her hair up instead of leaving it free hanging.
If you feel the hair is adorable, then so be it. Once she is older and has decided for herself that the length of her hair is not important, I hope that you will listen and allow her to make up her own mind.

No. Hair does NOT take nutrition, so to say. Hair grows from the head. Whether you cut it or let it grow, same nutrition, ok? Let her keep her pretty hair for her loving daddy's sake. Baby Nurse.

Hair taking her nutrition? I thought hair was dead...
So I cannot see how that is possible, kwim,,
It is healthy to get hair cut as it helps it grow and rids the split ends. I would trim it just a little.

I have NEVER heard that before. Hair and nails are mostly protein, but they don't take any more protein away based on how long they are. If that were the case, then men would generally be healthier than women, and that isn't so.

Do what you want with your daughter's hair. She's only this young for so long.

It's not unhealthy to grow hair. If you don't want to cut it don't. You may occasionally want to take it in for a trim to get the split ends off and keep it healthy looking, but there's no need to cut it short. If you like it, she likes it and you aren't having trouble taking care of it (ie: Knots or anythign) then leave it. It's really your choice.

No your hair does not take most of your nutritions. If your baby's hair isn't dragging on the floor I would not cut it. little girls look cute with long hair. If you keep your baby's hair cleaned, and well groomed the hair will tend to stay looking good. It's at your discression to decide if you want to cut it. Take your baby to a beautican and discuss the situation with them. I'd do this first before I let others tell me to cut my baby's hair.
