First of all, not many people can tell a pair of good lenses (sunglasses) from a cheap imitation.
Second of all, it has to come from a very reliable source. Frames are negligible and subject to fashion trends. It is the lenses that count.
Only the lenses.

There are only 2 hazards. Cheap glasses (plastic or otherwise) can distort your vision and cheap sunglasses don't have very good UV protection. Sorry nothing about electromagnetic radiation though!

If the lenses aren't polarised the horizontal light waves (which are light waves from glare) can get through.

If your eyes are subjected to too much light waves some people can get migranes/headaches and can even damage their eyes. You can also get these things called turegiums (not sure on spelling) that grow with UV light. They aren't painful but must be removed if they start to grow over the iris of the eye.

Much better paying for the more expensive lenses

Sunglasses do not cause any dangers if they are cheap. Electromagnetic waves don`t behave differently if the cost of glasses is different. Cost depends only on the claims of manufacturers.Costly ones may weigh less, not break easily and may not get scatched often.
