It isn't "wrong" but if it looks feminine, you may be pegged as being homosexual. Tribal tends to be jagged, but some is curvy... it depends on the design, really.

It happens from time to time. A Tattoo is essentially a scar, and a foreign substance introduced into your body (the ink). Your body will try to heal, and fight the foreign invader. After a week, my tattoo did the same, after about a month it looked fine, however where my skin had peeled parts of the tattoo were faded or missing. Don't fret, you can always go in for a touch up, and I'm sure he won't be offended. Everybody heals in different ways. Give it about a month though before going back, otherwise you're just poking at an open wound. EDIT: The back is a place where this is likely to happen most, along with backs of legs and butt, as this is where we are likely to put pressure. Try to keep any pressure off the tattoo area. Don't cover it with clothes if possible, and don't lean on it.

why don't you just get a rose on your ankle? j/k no, i think the upper back is a great place for a tattoo on a guy. i'm not really a fan of the stars tho. maybe you should do a little more soul searching to find a tattoo that really expresses you. also, i'm not sure how old you are or how much you think you like tattoos... but, you might also want to think about how you would be able to expand on it later in life. you might end up really liking tattoos, and the back is a perfect canvas. so, you might want to keep symmetry in mind... it makes it easier to add to.

My brothers and I all have tattoos on our upper backs and/or shoulders. I like mine, and I've never heard any of them complain about theirs. Just be sure ya want it there forever.

Upper back/shoulder tattoos are just as popular on guys as lower back ones are for girls.

My man has a tattoo that goes upper back near the neck in the middle. The only place I think it looks funny on guys is their lower back . But that's me.

I know a few men that have tattoos there. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact in the summertime and if the guy is buff, there is nothing more that I like to see when I am on the boat and there is some nice looking guy that has a big tribal tattoo right there.

don't get tribal!!! please?
lots of guys have tattoos on thier backs and shoulders. i hate the fact that there are people who consider tattoo placement to be masculine and feminine. the body is the body and we all have mostly the same parts so why can't we all get tattooed in the same places without worrying about if people with think it's girly or manly? get the tattoo that you want wherever you want to get it. but make sure that it is really the tattoo that you want and make sure you get a good artist who is talented and worth your skin. make your first tattoo a good one!

I sure hope not. That's where I got my first, and I'd hate to have to kick the as$ of everyone who dissed on it. (j/k)
No, nothing wrong. Technically no place is wrong; fashion trends just tell you what's preferred for a given sex at a given time. Whether you wish to buck fashion for personal preference is your call, but I always encourage it. For this location I think it's pretty irrelevant.
