I'm thinking it may be time to get rid of my son's crib. He's 20 months old. I think he'd be okay with it, considering he naps on the couch and never falls off. However, I'm worried that he'll get up and wander around the house by himself. When did you put your kid in a bed?

He tries to climb out of the crib, and I'm afraid he's going to succeed and fall on his head!

My son was 2 1/2.Get a toddler bed first, its great, they are low to the ground and most have side railings so the child doesn't fall off. I got mine really inexpensive at walmart. Of course your child will have to get adjusted to sleeping in it, and then they will be use to it after a while, and do get a night light if you don't already have one. Trust me they wont go anywhere unsafe, they will zoom right into your room. My son(5) still does that, and man its uncomfortable, you know children toss and turn like no tomorrow.

My son was dumped out of his crib at 21 months old when his sister was born. She started climbing out of said crib at 14 months so she got demoted to a playpen. At 19 or 20 months she was promoted to a big-girl bed...we got a daybed for her which we have turned around backwards so that she doesn't fall out. My kids both slept through the night really well, and if they weren't asleep they would come and find me. They don't go into dark rooms at night...they can't see what's in there. So we have a nightlight trail to us.

I put my son in his own bed at 16 months and never had a problem with wondering around.. My daughter we put her in a toddler bed at 14 months and when she woke up she would come into our room. Are you thinking of a regualr twin bed or a toddler bed? If a twin.. I probably would not put it on a frame for awhile in case he was to roll off or if you did get the side rails. Usually if its dark they will try and find mommy...and if you do have a wonderer baby gates can block him (as long as he doesn't climb them--each kid is different)

We put all three of our children in toddler beds around the age of 18 months. Once they got use to the idea of a bed and not a crib, we got them all regular twin sized beds (usally around 2 1/2 or 3yrs of age) . By this time they have learned not to sleep on the edge or you fall out but his time it will be a higher fall :) It has worked great for all three of our kids and not one of them does not love their bed kid bed. Make sure they help you pick out there new beds and bedding it makes them excited to use their new "toy".

I put my boys in beds when they were 2 years old I was always worried they would climb out of the cot and fall, they loved being in big beds. I dont think they would wander around the house if it's dark, mine just wake up and cry out for me.

We put our first in a bed at 16mths cos she kept climbing out of cot, our son was 18 mths before he climbed out! You have to make sure they are absolutely knackered going to bed otherwise they just keep getting up all the time! Close all doors to bathrooms/other bedrooms except yours, don't leave toys out in his room and don't have a night light in his room, put in on the landing. Any chink of light and he'll be up! Don't forget the stairgate at the top of the stairs. If he does get up in night by doing all of above whats he likely to hurt himself on?! For a few weeks we kept a duvet along the floor by the side of the bed just incase they did fall out - works a treat!
I know they say your child should be 21/2 - 3 before even thinking of changing to a bed but to me that contradicts all the daytime encouragement of independance in your child.
good luck x

they could fantastically a lot pass their at any time, extraordinarily if their is a rail. My daughter became in a unmarried at a million year previous for her naps. by then she ought to appropriately were given out fo the mattress by herself and the rail prevented her from rolling off. i comprehend some toddlers that not at all slept in a crib yet a small mattress on the floor and they are superb. from time to time human beings use cribs until eventually they're 3, and regardless of if it isn't some thing I accept as true with, see you later as actually everyone looks satisfied there is not any harm in it. I favourite my daughter to be in a position to upward push up at the same time as she needs to. This in simple terms my philosophy notwithstanding and perhaps some thing else will artwork on your household. And the temperament of the toddler is likewise significant.

I have asked my mom that question, and she said that her and my dad put me and my brother in a regular bed once we started climbing out of the crib.
