im mormon, and we did practice polygamy like a hundred years ago and we dont do it anymore but people still say we do and hate us. we also dont drink, so its not like we are going to get drunk and beat our kids or get in a crash and kill ten people. we also dont smoke so we dont give people second hand smoke. we also believe in god like every other christian but we do believe that joseph smith had seen god and they showed him the golden plates which is like the bible except its in the americas. so tell me why you or other people hate us, we are really nice, its like impossible to find a mean mormon, and we help other countries out that are having problems or are really poor

Doug: I am a Christian, and I don't not hate nor condemn Mormoms. I do not agree with their dogma but I do treat them in the "love your neighbour as yourself" mode. I encourage all people and any religious persons, to research into what he or she believes and prove it. Don't assume that because some one either, in the religious or Science fields says something, that it is 100% true and factual. What I have found during my 34 years as a Christian, is that no one has all of the answers and the ones who say they do - stay far away from them !!! Keep up serving the poor - no matter what faith you follow, Scientific or religious, you are doing the right thing !!!

People hate Mormons? When did this happen? Well, evangelicals might, but then again, they hate everyone but Jesus and George W Bush (uuhhh, lumping those two together leaves a bad taste in my mouth).

First - I was raised mormon, and still have a lot of mormon friends. They're good people - but sometimes a bit condescending (for example - I do drink, and I also am not about to beat my kids or get into a crash and kill ten people). It's not a horrible fault, most of them never display it anyway, and I find it easy to overlook (they certainly overlook a whole lot of my faults), but to a person who hasn't had that much contact with mormons, they can sometimes seem a little self-righteous.

Second - It's not impossible to find a mean mormon. I know a few. People are people, be they mormons or what have you, and some of them are just mean.

Well, actually, there are still sects of Mormons that practice polygamy, but other than that, I agree with you, except in one other point. The Jesus you believe in is not the same Jesus I believe in, not to mention that the core beliefs of Mormonism is very different from the core beliefs of Christianity. So different, in fact, that Mormonism is considered a cult, and the beliefs are considered heresy in the christian church. But I don't hate Mormons, and I have never met a mean Mormon either, and I have met quite a few.

I'm prejudiced against mormonism and I'm not really proud of it. It just rubs me the wrong way. All organized religion rubs me the wrong way.

You are telling the truth when you say that mormons are nice. They are good people and I've spoken with many missionaries (active/returned) and I stand behind it. I'm even dating a mormon (2 years).

I may not agree with your tenaments and your bible or the Jesus in America claim, but I don't hate you. Hate is for the blind.

Shine on you crazy mormon diamond.

I just simply don't like mormons. Nothing personal against you, but the idea of religion is hard enough for me to swallow ... let alone the idea that the resurrected Jesus came to the Americas and spread the gospel to the indigenous peoples. I mean, after all ... native americans had very complex spiritual ideas, and until the white man arrived from europe, none of those ideas included Jesus. If Jesus had preached to the natives, somebody, somewhere would have converted ... and there is just no historical evidence of that. So, I think that the entire idea is absurd, and I can't understand someone who suspend reality in their own mind that far. Therefore, I just don't like mormons.

Also, we have these mormon guys who walk around my neighborhood knocking on doors and cornering people about their faith. And they don't take no for an answer. They are very condescending when you tell them "Thanks, but I'm not interested", just like most other christians do ... but the difference is that those other christians don't knock on my door at 9 am.

I don't hate anyone, and don't dislike Mormons either.
I work in science and have a Mormon colleague. He gets alot of question about why y'all believe this or that, and of course, is he going to have 5 wives, etc. He is awfully young to have 3 children but seems to be coping and I guess the church helps, and yes, I don't think I've met a mean Mormon and they are generally good people.
My only problem is with anyone of any faith who goes door to door proselytizing or who legislates their morality. To me faith is very personal and a journey, rather than a rock solid destination one arrives at during one's life and then never continues examining, and being "saved" akin to being embalmed spiritually. So when I see two nice young, well dressed in a white shirt and tie, guys heading for my doorstep I either hide or if caught, prepare for a very adventurous discussion with two souls who don't know what a Unitarian Universalist is from the Easter Bunny!

My mom has since adopted Zoroastrianism as the faith to stump em with. . . it works well with the JW's too.

Have not seen much Mormon bashing lately, Mitt Romney running for the Republican nomination should bring out a bunch of that though.

I have seen a lot of folks that think Mormon doctrine is really 'cultish' but don't know of any jihad type hatred gong on...

Seek and ye shall find...

All my best to you

I'm curious as to why a Mormon posted such a dark skinned icon as representation of self. That wouldn't go over well with the group now would it. The only thing that I disagree with of the mormon way of life is the fact that the man feels he can have countless wives and ho around but the women can only be bound to the one man, AND these same men can go through entire families of females including the little girls. That is child rape. They also believe women should be subservient to the man and cannot have a mind of their own and HE makes decisions for them. The book of mormons was written by a man who wanted to marry but did not want the restrictions of marriage and fidelity and in order to have sexual freedom came up with multiple wives and subservience demands as in the Bible. The women did not have this freedom and cannot have a mind of their own and they must keep themselves for the one man. These same men can go through entire families of females including the little girls and that's child rape. It is unfortunate that the women can't see the rules guide for what it is and they follow the dictates BLINDLY.

I don't hate you. Some of my relatives are Mormons and they're good people with good hearts and I love them, BUT the Mormon church teaches lies. They preach that there are different levels of heaven. That's a lie. You claim that Joseph Smith talked face to face with God. Not one single human being, not even the Old Testament or New Testament Apostles nor the disciples ever talked to Him face to face. That is physically impossible. Read the Bible. The King James Bible not your version and you will see the truth.

I fully agree with rel541.

they are sexist against women. [not letting women be prophets, encouraging women to stay in the home]

they have all these rules with no reason for it [no caffeine, no wearing bikinis]

they are very secretive, but they want to be accepted as part of the Christian community of churches too

the book of mormon is full of inconsistencies. and it is inconsistent with the bible.

some of my best friends are mormon. i love mormons. but the church of the LDS is a very oppressive institution that hurts many of its members spiritually and emotionally.
