I have a hard time falling asleep. When my mind goes into overdrive I will think and over think things in my head. These include singing songs or getting emotional about things I can't change in the past, I will start to get mad at people who did me wrong. I tell my head to stop, but it just keeps teeming with random thoughts. How can I ease my mind and just get some sleep?

I do a color countdown technique. Its used for meditation - but it puts me to sleep -
close your eyes and relax. Picture in your mind a screen of some sort. The screen should be completely blank. When you have a good image of it in your head, imagine a red 7 on the screen. Try to make it as solid as possible. Wait until you can see the shape of the number and the color. Then "erase" the 7 from the screen and imaginie an orange 6. Keep going with this process - a yellow 5..green 4..blue 3..indigo..2..violet 1.

I usually fall asleep by the time I get to green. If my mind is particularly active, I add other senses to the image. I read somewhere that if you engage all your senses with your brain, it quiets your mind. So with the red 7, I'll imagine some texture to it. Like maybe a red balloon in the shape of a 7. I'll think about what it would feel like to touch it - tight on the outside but it has a bounce to it. Then I'll think about what it smells like - the latex smell of a balloon. What it sounds like if I rub it with my hand or if I bounce it off that wall. Maybe even what it tastes like.

When you catch your mind wandering to songs or other things, bring it back to whatever number and color you were on an go from there.

Good luck!

I am curious about the type of lifestyle u lead,... As you see, u may have insomnia, or maybe its just dat ur body has too much energy that has not been used. This may also cause you to keep away,...

If its the second reason, then I can answer to that, because I face that type of sleep problem. Either in the mornings or in the evenings, take a walk or a jog or do an activity that will tire you. once you are tired, you will be able to go into a deep slumber. So far, its been working great for me!

Here is a web I would suggest for u to look into! Enjoy n Take care! :)

i do have the same problem as you too. Some told me to drink a cup of warm milk, count sheep or do some reading before sleeping. But i find that the best method is in your mind. Keep a clear mind. do not think of anything at all. i know it is hard to do it, but u got to keep on trying and practise it until u can just simply empty your mind and fall asleep without thinking. dont think of your problems. be happy and have a restful sleep.

Hi Rep, read this it works soooo well!!!
Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, and is actually very very beneficial for your health, the health of your brain and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it "over the counter" at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. Its so healthy for you too!! Should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

Get a book and write all the things you think about down. Who ever wronged you is still getting the better of you. You can't change the past but every time you think about what they did, those thoughts are still taking away your time and energy now. Don't give them that.
Think about what YOU want instead and you will sleep easier.

There's something called SleepMD which can be purchased like at Walgreens or Walmart. It helps you fall asleep and i heard a lot of good things about it. There are no drugs in in - just vitamins and such. I won't guarantee that it'll work because i've only heard about it and never took it because i dont have sleeping problems. i have the total opposite.

That's awful when your mind won't shut down.
Try drinking something warm--no caffeine--before you lie down.
A warm bath helps,too.
The TV needs to be off, as well as the radio.
Sleep specialists say we shouldn't use the bedroom for anything other than sleep and sex--no computers!
Listen to some hypnotic/classical(soft) music if you like that.
And when the random, repeating thoughts come, just tell them to go away and breathe as deeply into your belly, and then out your nose, as possible.
This works for me, and I used to take 2 different meds for sleeping.
Good luck, and good sleep.

Watch fish swim around (real aquarium) or fake TV screen . Wrap yourself in a nice warm blankey. Drink warm milk, and the best of all, open a large textbook and tell yourself "ok my dear, lets make ourselves useful while insomniac, tonight we are learning fusion, or quantum physics.' Those are silly suggestions, but I have textbooks that make me sleep in less than a minute.
If it doesnt work, at least you can say you are a walking encyclopedia.
