If you're going to do a lot of editing and making stuff then no it is not worth buying.
Vista has DRMs(its programmed to identify and stop pirating) that will not allow you to do many things. The security is beefed up and will ask wheter or not to do things, even simple things.
I'd buy a mac, only cuz theyre the wave of the future. ;]

The difference is the price and the "look". Other than that, it's basically Windows XP. Think of it as "XP with a make-over." LoL. I'm serious. I mean, you should Google for articles about Windows Vista.
It has a lot of application compatability issues, too. Meaning, a lot of software, digital cameras, MP3 players, etc., do not work with Vista. I've already seen SEVERAL reports of that.
But I'd suggest doing what everyone else is doing and stick with Windows XP or whatever you're currently using.

I have recently purchased vista and it has a issues concerning drivers for your hardware graphics card , sound card , TV Tuner
I am having to replace most of my software i normally use and swap for windows vista compatible but believe me its not easy
because a lot of software is not compatible its costing me a lot of money ! On a more positive note though I do think when its all sorted out it will be worth it and i am sure Microsoft are working with the known issues ? Good luck

Vista is very pretty. It will also ask you "Are you sure?" Twice everytime you try to do something, ya know, because that makes it secure. It has a few cute features like Aero glass that lets you scroll through your open windows, and it gives you a thumbnail preview if you mouse over tabs in your taskbar.
Is it worth buying? If you don't think XP is pretty enough and are sure that your hardware and software are compatible, then maybe. Frankly, It has no significant improvements over Windows XP and uses 4 times as much memory.

Right now Vista has allot of issues concerning drivers for your hardware, such as graphics card , sound card , TV Tuner etc.
Both ATI and Nvidia is struggling with working drivers for vista.
I think Vista is worth it 6 months to a year from now. But as it is right now..stick to Win Xp and upgrade when all the security holes and important updates has been released.
According to MS, a Vista PC should have a DVD-ROM, 1 GB of memory, a 1 GHZ CPU, and a 40GB hard drive with 15GB of available space plus a 256 mb graphics card.
For a serious gamer like me that means i need to get atleast 3 to 4gb of ram which is nuts.

Dear Jess,
please be pacient to buy Vista. It might be many bags and unfixed problem. And one more thing: you need very powerful processor and video card to ahve it installed on your pc without problem. Altought there is an option to make Vista work less fancy.
Have a nice day. Bay the way my email is haikton@yahoo.co.uk
