I agree with everything LILY said but she forgot to mention that you will NOT be able to get another bank account and thus be forced to cash your checks at the check cashing stores or some other place where they take 4% or more of the total amount of the checks as a fee for 'helping' you get your own money (free at your bank). Then you have to walk around with cash and pay for your out of state bills with money orders which will ultimately cost you more money that paying the bad checks off probably will. Your rate and chance of being robbed will increase since people regularly follow poeople walking out of those stores because you dont really have to guess if they have money on them or not.
Since you owe the money, you really should just pay it.
If you go and talk to the bank officials, they might be able to waive the bad check fees that your bank has imposed.

Depending on how many bad checks are out....court, court fines, fees for the amount of check and returned fee for each and possibly....jail.
