Dog years averages out to be about 7 years for every human 1 year. But development of a dog in their first year actually takes them to about 10-15 and the second year takes them to about 20. After that, they pass 30 at about 3 and a half and it takes another 2 years to pass 40. So dogs age at hyperspeed early in their lives, then it slows down to 4-5 dog years for each human year later. It depends on the breed and the dogs weight. Some dogs live longer than others, so their dog years are longer than other dogs. Smaller breeds tend to live longer than larger breeds, so larger breeds will get older in dog years faster than smaller breeds. You can see an online chart for converting years to dog years based on weight here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Dog_and_human_year_graph.png

It is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. That is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. The formula used below is from a canine expert and is a bit more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)

The formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after.

I beleive the first two years for a dog are equal to 24 human years combined, then every following year is worth X amount for a while, and then anothe X amount for another while, dependant on the breed.

It depends on the dogs age and breed. They don't age at the same rates as humans. The general idea is 7 to 1.

It starts at about 7 but as they age it drops to between 5 and 6....so a 15 year old dog is a senior citizen of around 90.........
