my 19yr.old daughter is unemployed, has no insurance and went to the ER in severe pain about 6 weeks ago. was diagnosed w/fatty liver.i had to borrow $ for a visit to my internal dr. i am on disability w/a 13 yr.old,i have no where to turn. the internal dr. wanted her to come back for a full blood work-up. another charge 4 office visit, cant get the $ 4 that let alone for the blood work n another visit 4 results. her pain is getting worse by the day, she has been actively lookin 4 work, but pain is worse then ever. i am begging 4 someone to give me any suggestions of programs(local or state-elk grove village il. cook county). when she went to the ER, i was out of town, family death. i looked up if she could qualify for il. med card-public aid, but i guess if ur not "knocked-up" (sorry,i'm worried sick), i need help fast, this is very serious, could be fatal. also has severe pain in low abdomen. PLEASE, any ideas would be so welcomed ASAP. thank you

if she's in severe pain and you think her life could be at stake, you need to get her to the emergency room NOW and worry about the costs LATER!
for future doctor's visits, maybe see if this hospital could give you phone numbers of local free clinics.

I dunno, take her to the County hospital.. you might have a long wait time while you're there, but I'm fairly certain they can't turn you away if it's a serious as you describe. Don't worry about costs and just go.
Maybe even try calling 911 to get an ambulance to take her if it's that serious right now .. just say her pain is unbearable and you're scared and not sure what to do.

If you have a free clinic, take her there and tell them she has no money. They will decide the course of action. Let them send her over to the emergency room if need be- because then the hospital can't tell you to take her (back) to the free clinic. They will (most likely) push her infomation through the system quickly and get her enrolled in Medicaid while she's IN the hospital (even if they deny her next year, they'll "allow" it this year while she's being treated.) ... then she'll have to turn all her bills into Medicaid so they can be paid.

as others have said, she can't be refused on the basis of her lack of insurance. get her taken care of first, she has the rest of her life to figure out how to pay. check with your local health department, they may have #'s for local groups/coalitions that may help with insurance. or bills. if she is a member of a church, especially a long term member, they may be able to help arrange something(catholic or lutheran social services) Does the salvation army have a church nearby? they may be able to steer ya'll in the right direction. is there a teaching hospital nearby? she could get reduced rates + more opinions and possibly more advanced treatments. However, she may get poked and prodded more :( but the big thing is to get her healed of this. she can't do anything or pay anything while she's sick. good luck

If you live in America then drop her at the hospital. They can't turn her away just because she can't pay. Just keep yourself out of it so they don't try sticking you with the bill. After she gets the bill she can get it reduced if she doesn't have any money or income. She just has to find the right department of the hospital to talk to.

A fatty liver is not life-threatening, and while she is looking for employment and insurance, she could try to quell the symptoms on her own. She needs to exercise, drink plenty of water, and cut out as much fat in her diet as possible.

Call 911 now. A hospital must treat her by law. Also, she is an adult and you are not responsible for payment. Good luck, I wish that I could be more helpful.

Go to Cook County hospital (Now called John Stroger) at I290 and Ashland in Chicago. Medical care there is free. However you may wait a while becasue they are usually very busy! The have an Er and an excellent trauma unit.
