unless they changed it since the last I saw it, which wasn't too long ago, there is nothing wrong with it. It concerns me how doctors will say things about shows like this, but don't say anything to parents that let their young children wath Jerry Springer and such.
Glad to see your worried, but best to watch it your self. I wouldn't trust anyone on here to make a judgement call on my child, nor the doctor. Get advice, look into it yourself and make your decission from there.

Sesame Street is awesome!!! My kids love it and my pediatrician has never said that it was a bad show for kids to watch. The people in charge of Sesame Street is trying to change Cookie Monster's image by not allowing him to eat cookies all the time. I think your doctor needs to chill out!!!

I grew up watching Sesame street. I went to university and speak three languages. I have lived in 4 countries. I am happily married and have two beautiful children who watch ... Blue's Clues! (well, only because we don't have satellite tv anymore, but when we did they watched Sesame Street.) I learned the alphabet before I was 2...and so did my son. No, your pediatrician was expressing an opinion. I personally liked telling my kids that the only monsters were Elmo and Grover and Cookie Monster. Sure made that whole childhood fear easier to combat, don't you think? Go ahead...PBS is a wonderful thing!!!

As a teacher, I suggest that parents let there children watch Sesame Street. It's a wonderful show that teaches children all sorts of ideas, methods, and gives them great introductions to things they normally wouldn't be exposed too. But I say this with everything being in moderation. PBS is known for educational broadcasting and if far better than the Disney/Nick channel. They are focused more on educational techniques rather than mass production.

There is pro and contra of letting your children watching sesame street. Some children they took positively since it is education for learning alphabet and so on. But when times watching ugly character such as cookie monster doesn't show how to behave nicely. What makes this thing funny when i saw my own nephew watching sesame street and having nightmare when saw cookie monster...Hahaha... Best of luck...

Sounds like this doctor is just expressing his opinion.
There is nothing wrong with Sesame Street.
It's much better for children than most TV programs.
The concept behind this type of show for little ones is that, they noticed little tykes would pay attention only to the commercials, and ignore most television shows. So, they decided to make educational TV that was fast-paced and interesting like a commercial... and it worked! Children learned ABC's and numbers, among other things, from watching it.
Children should also be given an opportunity for slow-paced learning, however. Before they start to school, they should be taught how to sit and listen to stories, and patiently work with paper and crayons.

I grew up with Howdy Doody, the Lone Ranger, Captain Kangaroo, and Soupy Sales. Saturday cartoons consisted of Bug Bunny, Bullwinkle and Rocky. I have a gifted IQ and I have never been arrested.
Your kid should be able to handle Sesame Street. Try to restrict the Barney viewing time, however. Barney scares the hell out of me....

Sesame Street was a great show when I was a kid... I think the purpose of all the different characters is to teach diversity.
