Can anybody give me a suggestion on where to stay on the beach close to LA? I'm hoping to get a nice hotel/motel, clean, close to the beach, safe, with the best price possible.

Also the same question for Hollywood.

p.s. it will be during spring break.
Thank you.

There are lots of reasonably good chain motels in the South Beach area (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach). These are invariably cheaper than what you'll find in places like Santa Monica. Go to the websites of any of the big chains, search for one those city names, and you should be able to find an affordable property that will work for you. You can either book directly with the chain or try one of the discount sites.

The big chains also all have Hollywood locations. It was nothing special, but it was clean and well located right by the Vermont/Beverly subway station. I've also stayed at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which is a fascinating place (and not much more expensive than the chains) right across from the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

There's a free Beach Vacation Guide at:

http://www.yourinternettravelguide.com/freeguides.php

that has a lot of LA Beaches in it so it may help. It also has some travel links in it to cheap deals sites.

Also, this review site had some good stuff last time I looked at it:

Best to have a look at some travel sites and the major travel companies as they often have last minute deals if you can be flexible and leave it til the last minute to decide.

Hollyweird is not the place you want to go for spring break.
