I'm a 16 year old teenage boy trying to get a part-time job. I have shaggy hair that is about an inch past my ears. my brother had to get his hair cut above his ears when he worked as a cart-pusher/returner at fred meyer. Is this pretty consistent across the board, or are there some jobs i could get without having to get a hair cut?

Try being a professional kickboxer. I don't think they'd care what you look like

You don't need to work at Walmart or paint houses for the rest of your life if you're a guy with long hair, you just have to know how to work with it! I'm 19 years old and I've got long, straight, shoulder length hair and I work at Best Buy during the summer. That's a pretty good job! The key for me that helped land that job as a male with long hair, and my advice to you is...

1. Keep it washed, shiny, and styled in an attractive, approachable way. ALWAYS make sure your eyes are completely visable! THAT is the main reason that employers reject men with long hair... if they can't see your eyes!

2. If it's curly and out of control, buy a flat iron and straighten it! Just make sure you buy one with ceramic plates... it's less damaging to your hair. This will help keep the hair flatter on the head, and gives it shine and silkiness.

3. Color it, but ONLY a natural tone! Not only is this fun, but it shows employers that you care what your hair looks like. Now, obviously color isn't crucial, especially if you have a nice natural tone, but alot of times it adds an extra "umf" to the look!

How about a hair salon? You could work as the person who washes hair (but you'd have to deal with hairstylists wanting to cut your hair all the time, just cause it's there). Or maybe an alt video store or record store. Or you could start your own business--maybe walk dogs or mow lawns/do yard work or fix people's computers, if you're into that.

You can find a job where you don't have to cut your hair, no prob. Record store, restaurant, telemarketing, book store, clothing stores...it really shouldn't be a problem for you. And since you already know Fred Meyer makes guys cut their hair, don't apply there.

I have a friend who works at Best Buy that looks a lot like Gandalf :) Long hair, beard..... An inch past your ears doesn't sound too long. All you can do is apply, apply, apply!
